Romantic might not be the word Overall Food Value Service Atmosphere I was a little disappointed. It was above average, but certainly not the exquisite food or atmosphere I had anticipated. My husband had pasta with arrabiata sauce which was rather bland, he felt. He doesn't have a high tolerance for spice so if he felt it was lacking in "heat", I take his word. I had "Tortelloni Squash" which had a limp feel, more in the manner of Chinese won tons than Italian pasta. The service was good but the atmosphere was loud-loud-loud. Never dissapointed in IG Overall Food Value Service Atmosphere I have gone to il Giardino Restaurant about 5-7 times since I moved to Vancouver 3 years ago and I have never had a bad meal, not once! Last night I went with another couple and we all had a great time. The server was great with his timing. He let us chit chat for a long time with drinks before asking for our order, which happened to be what we wanted. He then made some great recommendations, which we took into consideration when ordering. My wife and I had the Goat Cheese Soufflé and Minestrone Soup starters and Baked Black Cod and Mediterranean Halibut as mains. They were both absolutely incredible. Our companions had a Caesar's Salad and Minestrone Soup along with a Italian Sausage Penne and the same h/alibut, and they claimed that the dishes were divine. The ambiance of Il Giardino is like being in a little Italian Villa with seating areas in different parts of the home and outside. It is very impressive in its subtlety, and not something that most people would appreciate unless they realize the amount of work that goes into pulling a look and feel like that off properly. The bill came to $260 + tip, so $300... not horrible when you consider 4 people, a round of drinks and a bottle of wine. excellent food, excellent service Overall Food Value Service Atmosphere The food at Il Giardino is one of the best in the city! You could not get a seat on a Wednesday night, which is testament to how good this restaurant really is! The minestrone soup is always good as is the tuna sashimi appetizer. The winner was truly the pasta! Squash filled tagliotelle in a beef broth with portabello mushrooms and tomatoes....you could lick the plate clean!My hubby's smoked black cod was also very tasty. The portions are just right, and the service was friendly and helpful. Lucky you if you could manage to get seated on the outdoor patio on a warm summer night!! Although, it was a bit noisy.... An Italian Staple in ourr City Overall Food Value Service Atmosphere My wife and I have been here twice since we found out about it and we plan to go back again and again. Their garden setting is fantastic (especially in the summer time) and the food superb. The wine list is extensive but it didn't really matter that much to us because I don't drink and my wife only drinks one glass of wine. We love the fish, the scallops and the prawn entrees, but especially the pastas. There's just something delicious about a pasta done right...and this place DOES IT RIGHT!
