Before Whistler was established in the 1960's, it was without a basic infrastructure - there was no sewage facility, indoor plumbing or electricity. There was also no road from Squamish to Vancouver until the late 60's. Whistler was developed by four Vancouver business men who were looking to bid on the 1968 Olympics by building a top-notch ski resort. The Garibaldi Lift Company was formed in 1966 when Whistler first opened to the public.
